What are intrusive thoughts?
Intrusive thoughts seem to come out of nowhere. These thoughts and images are not wanted and often unpleasant. These thoughts can sometimes be aggressive, sexual, or you could suddenly think about a mistake and begin to worry.
You might feel distressed and overwhelmed when this happens, but guess what, having an intrusive thought once in a while is a typical part of life/being human.
Intrusive thoughts do not have any particular meaning, in many cases. Recognizing logic versus illogic, you will understand these are only thoughts and you have no desire to act on them. Intrusive thoughts are not harmful.
However, if they’re happening often, causing you to have concern, or interfering with your daily life, it’s always a good idea to talk with someone.
